If you haven’t—you should. Browse www.cardersteubenclub.org This is a labor of love for our webmaster, Marshall Ketchum. As webmaster he has posted 4,100 Carder Steuben pictures since 2010. Think about that. Just an amazing number of reference pictures. In looking at the home page of the website I see that in the month of May alone, 91 new pictures were added. (yes, he tracks down and posts on average three new pictures per day) There were 1,095 separate visitors to the site in May as well. It’s hard to imagine the work Marshall puts in to find all these pictures, verify they are Steuben, catalogue them by shape number, color description, technique and on and on. Marshall’s wife, Carol, obviously has tough competition from Marshall’s devotion to Carder.

When you’re visiting the site roam around. First, take a look at “Contributors”. There are about 120 thus far. You can be a contributor. If you have a piece not shown on the site take a jpg picture and send along to Marshall at the address shown on the homepage.

I like to look at “recent additions”. See the latest objects Marshall has catalogued. As I said, at the rate of about three a day. Then double click and see the background description and larger photograph of the newly pictured piece. Take a look at an interesting shape number. Did you know you can go up and down. For example, if you are looking at shape #231, you can go to the previous or next shape with the click of the mouse. Sometimes it is interesting to see shapes in a grouping. Some numbers close together represent a style or technique that apparently was made about the same time. Or, you may see something you like and there are similar techniques for shape numbers nearby.

So, if you haven’t, click on the website and explore. There is a wealth of information to be had on the website and a lot to like.
