Continuing on with another piece from the summer exhibit at the University of Southern Indiana and descriptions and information supplied by Art Collection Registrar, Susan Colaricci Sauls is a 17inch diameter charger.
Ivory Charger with Applied Mirror Black Rim
Lead Glass with Applied Decoration
The contrast of these two glass colors is simply stunning. Although Carder was not an aficionado of the Art Deco style of the 1920s and 30s, this work defines the luxurious yet functional aspect of the movement.
Technical Note: Applied decoration is a technique where heated glass decorations are attached to a glass object while still hot and either left in relief or rolled on a smooth hard surface until they are flush with the surface. (In this example the Mirror Black Rim is flush.)
