Issue 3098
A very busy time of year and your Carder Steuben Club Board wishes yours the happiest of holidays. And it wouldn’t be a message from your Secretary if I didn’t mention that we still have a few people who haven’t renewed for the coming year. Memberships are important as they allow us to keep the website active, those ever interesting Gazettes in your inbox, and of course the opportunity to visit CMOG and attend our symposium. If you are unsure of your status, please feel free to email me at any time (beemank2@gmail.com). Karen Beeman
Sinclaire
The black vase shown in yesterday’s Gazette with Egyptian-themed etching is H.P. Sinclaire. The acid etched decoration has been found on various Sinclaire blanks. To date, I have seen this etching only on Nubian Black pieces. The white rim is another Sinclaire characteristic. Michael Krumme
Douglas Cutter also Identifies this as Sinclaire
Scott Hansen points out that the fake Steuben f-d-l probably reduces the value of this vase.
Markings of Steuben or Steuben fleur de lis are easy to fake, and false markings by unscrupulous people in the chain of ownership is not uncommon. Don’t depend upon Steuben markings alone in evaluating a piece of art glass. Rather, let the buyer beware when you see a marking such as found on this Sinclaire piece
