It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This

Remember the sterling presentation on perfumes to the Carder Steuben Club Symposium several meetings ago by Elizabeth & Frank Creech? If you were there, you didn’t forget it.

Well the Creech’s delivered another wower entitled “Glass:Miracle Born of Fire”. The program described and showed examples of the incredible, wonderful and beautiful perfume bottles that glass mking artists have freated through the ages to delight our eyes. In the wrapup of the presentation the Creech’s concluded by describing their personal favorite glass artist; yes, none other than Frederick Carder.

The presentation concluded by a spontaneous standing ovation by a roomfull of several hundred people. Now that doesn’t happen very often. So well deserved!

Do the Creech’s love Mr. Carder’s work? Well, they unwrapped and shared with me their just finished purchase. An exquisite and finely detailed Stevens and Williams engraved bottle.. To my mind, this seemed to me to be the Creech’s convention.

Reporting from the 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONVENTION at the Tropicana Hotel

If you want to know what I, a Steuben collector, am doing at this convention remember your Gardner book, and the pages and pages of “toiletres”. A number of their members are our members. One of the outstanding perfume bottle collectors, with a superb Steuben perfume bottle collection, and active and honored member of the IPBA is Bonnie Salzman, who is chairing this year’s Carder Steuben Club Symposium this coming September in Corning, NY.

Take a look at this logo for the Florida Flamingo chapter of the IPBA–something familar about this?

Two notable highlights of the IPBA convention for me was the Presetation by Elizabeth & Frank Creech (next column) and the auction (Tuesday’s Gazette).

2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
