What Do These Numbers Mean?
Lisa Ackerman Baldwin has a question about a piece she recent acquisition. It is a Steuben
453 Calcite and Blue Aurene basket. http://www.cardersteubenclub.com/shapes/item-view.cfm? category=Shape%20Index&recordID=25601&back=1
On the bottom someone had at some point written:
Now I get that 453 would be the shape number, and that 8 would be the size, ( it actually stands higher, but is eight inches from rim to rim) but what would the A Co mean
And would this have been a factory code or maybe indicating that it came from Alphonse Constantine or Wile E. Coyote bought it from the Acme Co.?
Maybe it was a previous owners own collector’s note?
My thanks for anyone with a plausible idea. I was going to wash it off first thinking it was A drivers license number or some other writing that detracted from the piece.
Blessings from California! :)) Lisa Ackerman Baldwin
