PRIDE AND JOY

For those who knew the late Bill Constable, he was a joy to be with. He shared his Scottish Heritage and made us all feel that we were also Scottish. In his obituary, note the pride he took in being a charter member of the Carder Steuben Club. Yes Kathie he will be sorely missed.

BILL CONSTABLE

Dr. William Charles Constable 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Troy, VA on Sunday, July 7, 2013. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on October 1, 1929 and was a graduate of the University Of Edinburgh Medical School. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He was an extraordinary physician, teacher, and mentor. His accomplishments to mention a few are: He was Director of Radiation Oncology at UVA Medical School, a member of the Royal College of Radiology, the American College of Radiology, the Radium Society, the Southern Association of Oncologists, a life member of the Colonnade Club, a charter member of the Carder Steuben Club, and a director of the Mid- Atlantic Rhododendron Society.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine; his children and their wives: William
Jr. and wife Ella, Edwin and wife Catherine, Marianne, Nicole and husband Joe and their sons Peter and Nathaniel, Etienne and wife Constance and their daughter Natalie, Valerie and husband Kurt and their daughters Sophie and Audrey; stepson Terry and wife Margaret and their son Carson; stepdaughter Tracey and husband Jamie and their children Katie and Logan; sisters, June and husband Lew, Angela, Eleanor and husband Robert, Paddy and husband Derek.

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Teague Funeral Home with interment following at Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
