Happy Thanksgiving
Last Wednesday we wished you a happy Thanksgiving. All we could find that was appropriate from Mr. Carder was an acid etched vase with a mallard in the pattern. Debby Schultz of New Vernon, NJ reminds us how appropriate a mallard is for the holiday, when she says “You can have a Turducken for Thanksgiving!!!”

Aurene: Steuben’s Iridescent Art Glass
Introduction
As we reported last Wednesday a great art glass collection is displayed in the Forsyth Galleries at Texas A & M University of College Station, TX. A full description of an Aurene exhibit of their collection, can be found at
It starts as:
Aurene Glass, an iridescent glass originated by Steuben’s co-founder and chief designer, Frederick Carder, was one of the company’s most well-known art glasses lines.Aurene glass was first marketed in 1904 and remained in production until around 1932. The hundreds of Aurene shapes and decorative elements produced by Steuben during Aurene’s three decades of production illustrate the two contradictory influences of Carder’s Steuben designs: the symmetry, order and balance of his Classical art training, and the organic, flowing and highly-stylized design elements of the American Art Nouveau movement. This exhibition showcases almost sixty pieces of Aurene glass from the Bill and Irma Runyon Art Collection. Click here for pictures and the full text
