Identification Question

Dec 9, 2019
Issue 3327

Hi Alan,

In an effort to relieve the boredom that has been expressed recently we thought that we would submit this compote we acquired in August of 2018 for discussion. The form does not appear in the shape gallery, however to us it appears to be a combination of design elements from at least two other compotes.

It almost seems as if the bowl of 6257 was added to the stem and foot of 7032 as new shapes were sometimes created by combining elements of two or more shapes into a new shape.

We discussed this last year with Scott Coots and it was agreed that would be a possibility since the 7032 already appears in the Shape Gallery with the Lily etch on a gold ruby edge in the same manner that this compote was created. We also thought that shapes 3179 & 6863 also shared some design aspects but to a lesser degree. This does retain the remnants of a paper label.

This was not added to the list of undocumented shapes on the club website and we would like comments also regarding if it should be included there.

We will be looking forward to the discussion.

Kind Regards,

Dave Kingsley & Duane Moulton
