Bonnie Asks for Help
Bonnie Salzman of Richmond, VA asks:
I need some help identifying this vase. It is a wonderful deep amethyst color, with exquisitely engraved grape and vine decoration. 13.5″ tall. Unmarked, but etched in the polished pontil “13 1/2” I am thinking Sinclaire or Pairpoint, but I’d like to know for sure.
Thanks for the assistance.

Paper Label
from David Chadwick-Brown of San Diego
Anent goblet #3168:
The photograph on the website is of a piece in my collection, though the color shows lighter than the glass really is. There is a triangular gold paper label by Steuben.
Actually the idea of that shape as an ivy planter makes more sense than calling it a goblet, but I remain thankful that Gardner (along with some of Marshall’s later finds) put them into a usable format, preserving the shapes regardless of how he chose to classify some of them.
2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
