This has raised some questions. Gordon Hancock of Patchogue, New York asks.

I am very interested in the information about the use of a paste mould. Why go through the long drawn out process of making such a mold why not just use a metal mould? Where did this note come from as I would like to do some research about the use of moulds at Steuben and Tiffany? To the best of my knowledge Tiffany used molds but I thought they were all metal.

I have always wondered whether “molding” took more time and effort, hence expense, than “blowing” an object. Of course size, shape and ingredients roughly being equal. We hear of “gaffers” but never of “molders”. In porcelain we hear of famous “molders”.
