Issue 464
Debby Schultz suggested we produce a video that could be used in tandem with a speakers bureau staffed by our members for presenting programs on Carder Steuben to schools and other groups. Gail Bardhan, at the Rakow Library, expands on this idea by suggesting that this media piece be distributed and sold by museum shops. See how one idea leads to yet more. Now the question is what volunteer will write, produce, direct, edit, etc.
Here’s Gail’s comments:
Debby is probably meaning both VHS and DVD format, which would expand possible usage and interest. A videorecording (library terminology which encompasses both types) could also be sold. I can’t speak for the buyer for the shops at The Corning Museum of Glass, but museum shops might be interested in selling such an item as well, and it would easily
expand your outreach. There is no existing videorecording that I know of that is currently for sale. 20+ years ago, the following was made and sold at the Rockwell Museum:
Creations from Fire : Carder Steuben Glass.
Producer, Insights for Rockwell Museum, 1985. 13 min. sound, color;
An introduction to some of the techniques and objects of Frederick Carder. Techniques demonstrated by a glass artist at Vitrix, include application of hot bits, casing, acid-etching, wheel engraving, making grotesque glass, adding color and pattern through the use of the marver, trailing, use of hooks and iridising. Includes moss agate, cintra, aventurine, trailing, iridising.
