Issue 373
A week ago we sent you some excerpts from a 1963 issue of Hobbies Magazine.
It involves an interview by Eric E. Ericson of Frederick Carder and Robert
Rockwell. Beth Shaut of the Carder Steuben Glass Shop in Corning, NY sends along this note:
I have copies of the Ericson Article from Hobbies Magazine and anyone who
hasn’t received one for their files can get one from me as Mr. Rockwell let me
keep half of the article copies. I’ve given them out at an earlier Symposium but
will bring them again to this years for anyone who didn’t get one. Mr. Rockwell
said that he thought that the article was one of the first printed on the Carder
Era of Steuben after the changed over.
For those attending this year’s Symposium in Corning (Sept. 18-20), this is one
more thing to add to the joys of attending. Typically, attendees will stop in to
the Carder Steuben Glass Shop to visit, see some Carder Glass for sale, possibly
meet and visit with Bob Rockwell. If you miss him, hopefully he will attend the
Sat. evening banquet. This year we also hope he will participate in the
Symposium when we do a segment on a oral history of those who know Mr.
Carder. We expect to be regaled with some of the personal experiences and
color of Frederick Carder. The experience of meeting the legendary Bob
Rockwell (the founder of the Rockwell Museum and long time friend of Mr.
Carder) is just one of those special experiences in Corning for those who haven’t
been there before.
Other experiences on Market Street include stopping in to 64 West antique
store where Tom Dimitroff has a display of glass for sale, and often Lon
Knickerbocker will have Carder Steuben for sale at another Market Street
antique shop. In addition, CMoG has a breathtaking display of some of Mr.
Carder’s designed glass in a windows to the world exhibit in the heart of Market
Street. Makes for quite a stunning beginning to the Symposium.
