In some of the past Gazettes there was discussion about jades with white casing. Blue and green jade pieces, e.g., sherbets, are sometimes so treated. See figures 8.3 and 10.27 in Dimitroff’s book for other, most effective uses. The strength of the plum jade showing through creates a beautiful color, almost lilac, and the bowl, viewed from above, gives off that unique color in a way no other piece of Steuben can. It is less visible on the interior of the accompanying bowl. I wish they would have made pieces with white on the outside and plum jade on the interior, creating this external color not otherwise seen, as well as giving the opportunity for an interesting ACB possibility.
