Bonnie Salzman of Richmond, Virginia will be presenting a session at the Club’s upcoming Symposium on fakes. She needs help with examples.
Symposium Session
Several years ago we added a session to the Symposium called Group Collector’s Choice. It was designed to encourage more participation in the Symposium by the attendees themselves by asking them to bring pieces or photographs from their collection that match the session’s theme and share them, and any associated story, with the audience. In the past we’ve had themes like “If You Could Only Keep One” or “Smalls” or “Goblets, Sherbets and Plates.” This year’s theme is “Fakes, Forgeries & Look-alikes.” Here is the description of this year’s session that will appear in the Symposium Program.
Fakes, Forgeries & Look-alikes – Group Collector’s Choice.

It looks like Carder Steuben, but is it? Is the acid etch fleur-de-lis correct? Is the “F. Carder” on the bottom authentic? Did you and the seller believe it to be Carder Steuben only to learn later that it wasn’t? These questions and more will be addressed in this interactive program in which Symposium attendees will bring in pieces that look like Carder Steuben, but are not, or have fake markings or forged signatures. These fakes, forgeries and look-alikes will be shared and discussed, with the goal of providing tips and clues for properly identifying Carder Steuben. If you have such a piece or a photograph (be honest – we’ve all made buying mistakes) that you are willing to share as part of this discussion, please contact Bonnie prior to the Symposium at bsalzman@msn.com or (804) 740-2358 and let her know if you are willing to participate and what you will share (identification of the owner of a piece is not required).

Hi, a local auctioneer and friend of mine is having an auction and he was told the lamp in the photographs is Steuben? Any thoughts from club members?
