Help Sought

Alan,

Perhaps you or one of our club members can answer a question for me: What do I have here?

The back story: About 30 years ago I knew an antique dealer in Austin, Texas, who was nearing the end of her life due to lung cancer. She was disposing of her personal collection and asked me if I’d be interested in a piece of Steuben she acquired in the 1950s. I said yes, purchased the piece and have had it in my collection since then.

But I’m really not sure what I have. On the heavily-worn bottom, with a magnifying glass, you can find barely discernible remnants of a Steuben signature. The bottom third of the vase or ewer is mirror-like, while the top two thirds is iridescent. The handle is not quite clear, but not quite frosted, either.

That’s the best description I can offer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best,

Dale Rice
