Hi Alan…Duane and I have excellent results removing Sharpie markings from glass using Windex and an old rotary style Oral-B electric toothbrush.
Sang de Boeuf
from Rande Bly of Birmingham, AL
Carder made a type of glassware at Steuben called Sang de Boeuf about 1915-16. It was White Glass cased in Gold Ruby. It was inspired by Chinese porcelain that dated from 1736-95. Two Steuben shapes were 2749 and 2784. We may find other shapes over time. I believe Sang de Boeuf means ox blood glaze. I think Steuben produced a bowl in addition to the vases. The vases are at the Corning Museum of Glass not on display. One of them was a gift from Carder. If you want to view the stunning period porcelain pieces google Sang de Boeuf.
To view the Carder Steuben pieces just put Sang in the Shape Gallery Search box at the Club Site. Carder discussed Gold Ruby cased White glass in “Conversations With Carder” on the 78 Record. The white glass is not Alabaster. Carder explains it is the same white glass he used for threading. My French Blue Diamond Optic Vase with White Threading just got here so my report on the white glass is as follows. It is almost opaque but shows faint signs of translucency with a hint of opalescence like found in some lesser makers milk glass. Ericson told me of Calcite cased with transparent colored crystal that I have never found yet. Maybe this is what he was talking about?
