Did you know that Frederick Carder’s birthday falls on September 18. He was born in 1863. For many years now Peetie and Tom Dimitroff sponsor a birthday party at the Carder Country Club. This year the party is held on the 18th, a Tuesday, before the Symposium. The Dimitroff’s have extended an invitation to all of us, a copy of which is found on the Club’s website and can be reached by this link.

Friday’s e-mail asked for help in identifying a lamp. Several responses.
First, from Jane Spillman, curator of American Glass at CMoG.
Alan, we have a table lamp the shade of which is nearly identical to the piece shown by Ms. Stebbins. Ours was made by Segar Studios of NY around 1925 and the globular shade inside the metal mount is Aurene. The metal is marked with the firm’s name.

Charles Sweigart of Reinholds, Pennsylvania adds
metal work appears to be Oscar Bach, NY, NY. He often used Steuben in the ball shaped lamps. metal and glass by him was often unsigned so first hand observation would be required to say definitively.

Hello all! I am a new member of the Steuben Club and look forward to attending the upcoming events in September. The symposium on fakes should be fascinating. I have been a full time art and antiques dealer for just under 30 years. When I have unfortunately bought fakes, I have proudly destroyed them. Sorry I can not bring any in hand, but look forward to learning as I will always be a student.
Regarding the origin of the lamp or pendant light, perhaps it is made by Oscar Bach. You will find an excellent website by “Friends of Oscar Bach”. There were many companies that made such lights and in my opionion there is no connection to Steuben.
Can’t wait to meet everyone this coming September.
