More on the Gift Book
from Rande Bly of Birmingham, Alabama
I opened the back of my Country Life Magazine color print and was able to get half way into it where I found the pencil notation I had made reading Dec. 1925 and stopped to avoid any damage. My gift book will be 1925 not 1927.
Michael Krumme if you tell me what the color pictures are in the middle of your gift book are I can compare to my other Country Life ads and tell you what year your gift book is. The years of my ads are 1925-1927. I have about 8 ads and am only missing a couple as I understand it. Your gift book is a true treasure. I just had to pay over $50 to be the high bidder on mine. My maximum bid was over $150. That is a lot of money just to look at pictures. With no response to your question I wonder if you and I are the lone owners of the gift books. It was still a little unclear but I think you were telling us Gene Murray gave his copy to you. I have spent hours discussing these ads with Bob Mueller and he never told me that he had a gift book. He does however have a few more ads than I do.
Today I will show page 8 and 9 featuring a console set constructed from shape 6332 Duck Center Piece Bowl accentuated on either side with a pair of 6287 Fan Vases. The console set is featured in Bristol Yellow. It reads groups of this character start at $21.00. This set could be slightly higher because I have seen a news paper ad featuring the duck for $21.00 alone. A 6030 vase was only $3.00 in the same ad. The duck was really high being that in 1932 Intarsia shape 7051 could be purchased for $16.00 and an Intarsia shape 7053 for$20.00.
2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
