Do You Know Where Selesia Is?

Regarding the Debby Schultz mystery vase, all the answers supplied were incorrect, and it’s neither Bohemian nor Austrian, but Silesian.

There was a time this was incorrectly attributed to Kralik on speculation. Many people not in the know with Bohemian glass would probably attribute it to Loetz, but that’s also incorrect. It’s documented Fritz Heckert, designed by Otto Thamm c.1900. This silberband glass is documented in the book “Fritz Heckert : Kunstglas Industrie, 1866-1923” by Dr. Stefania Z’elasko, Passau Glasmuseum 2012.

“The Crystal City – Cut Glass in Corning”

Jane Spillman, Retired, CMoG Curator of American Glass, spoke at the Carder Club Symposium on manufacturers and cutters in The Crystal City (Corning). Of course Steuben Glass Works provided many of the blanks for the cutters.

Beth Shaut’s comments on this presentation are “Jane Spillman talk on the cut houses of Corning was very interesting and information as to how Corning Glass Works came here an brought Hoare Cut Glass with them from Brooklyn, NY.”

Some photos of slides from Jane’s presentation follow:
