The highlight of the annual Carder Steuben Club Symposium (September 15-17) is the closing banquet held at the headquarters of Corning, Inc. The evening begins with mingling and libations while viewing Carder glass to be auctioned off at the end of the evening. Something magical about viewing Carder creations while overlooking the floor to ceiling views of the Chemung River, as the sun sets. Then on to a toast to Frederick Carder. What follows is an elegant dinner from the kitchens of Corning, Inc. Of course what banquet doesn’t feature dessert?

Ah, but then the second dessert, a Carder Steuben auction. The Symposium concludes with an auction that is always fun filled. Everyone shares the joy of seeing a bargain, or laughing at the auctioneers fun banter as newly found friends are coaxed to bid against one another. Marshall Ketchum provides the following information on auction items.

Alan

We continue to get material for the Symposium Carder Dinner auction on Saturday evening. We have 25 items so far with a promise of about 15 more so we should have enough to make it interesting. The material varies from the fairly common to a couple of quite rare pieces. Since I don’t have photos I will just list a few items.

Two 6663 Spanish Green cocktail glasses and one in colorless

2907 Aqua Marine vase

2780 Green Jade and Alabaster cup and saucer

5130 Cyprian goblet

6302 Rosaline and Alabaster basket

8554 Black over Red acid etched torchere shade

There will alway be a few other surprises such as a couple of interesting books.
