Several of our members (Elegant Glass Club) are also members of the Carder Steuben Club. This group is devoted to learning about the fabulous glass produced at Steuben during the era when the company was led by master glassmaker Frederick Carder. This would be roughly from 1901 to 1932. In the early 30s, the company was reorganized under new management, and ceased making colored glass, switching to the “optical quality crystal” that the company became famous for. Carder stayed on with the company in “emeritus” status, experimenting and creating (or recreating) various kinds of glass in a sort of in-house studio at Steuben. He lived to the ripe old age of 100.
This auction features a collection of Carder-era Steuben glass collected by Mr. & Mrs. David Schulz. There are many fine examples to drool over, including some rarities. The auction also features fine glass paperweights, new and old, many by Paul Stankard and other artists, as well as jewelry, china, furniture, and other fine items.
