Flying Eagles

At our Symposium David Goldstein of Naples, FL shared an interesting find. He
describes it below with pictures attached.

I recently acquired an incomplete variant of the Shape 6514 Eagle Centerpiece
which it was my pleasure to show and discuss at the recent Carder Steuben Club
Symposium. The Eagle Centerpiece, like the 6497 Diving Ladies
Centerpiece, should be an assemblage of five pieces; a base, three figurines and
a bowl. My example is missing the bowl, which is the least significant piece of
the five.

I have characterized my Eagle Centerpiece as a 6514 variant because, while it
shares most of the elements of the 6514 as shown in the Line Drawing on Page
152 of Gardner and pictured on Page 163 of Dimitroff, it has one significant
difference. On the 6514 as illustrated, the bowl has an extension which fits into
a fourth hole in the base, and does not rest on the Eagles. In my example the
base only has the three holes needed for the Eagles, so the bowl (assuming
there was one) has to have rested on the Eagles.

If you are wondering why I presented an incomplete centerpiece to the group, it
is because there are no known examples of the Eagle Centerpiece in any form. It
would appear that both the Eagle and Ladies Centerpieces were made to order.
The three known examples of the Ladies Centerpiece are each in unique color
combinations. In point of fact, the only common element among the Ladies
Centerpieces is that two of the three known examples have Bristol Yellow
bowls. Each set of Diving Ladies and each base is a different color. If any of you have a Bristol Yellow Bowl that might fit and look reasonable on the Eagle Centerpiece, please contact me at elvidant@aol.com. In the interim I plan on having a contemporary bowl blown to fit the centerpiece.
