Mirror Black Vase Cut to Light Jade Blue in Flambeau Pattern
Cased Acid-Etched Lead Glass
The uniqueness of this vase lies in the dual images of the pattern. Rather than use one image on all four sides of the vase, Carder utilized two images. The first image is the flaming bowl and the other is of the classical bowl of fruit.(see link below for alternative image)
Technical Note: The word “cut” in the title refers to the process of acid etching the surface of the glass. Acid-etched decoration is produced by covering the glass with an acid-resistant substance such as wax, through which the design is scratched. The object is then immersed in hydrofluoric acid, or a mixture of dilute hydrofluoric acid, then potassium fluoride is applied to etch the exposed areas of glass.
