First, John Styler says we could have seen this coming a couple of years ago. Then, an interesting article which is attached about the Schottenstein’s view of Steuben’s closing. Some interesting commentary that reflects the problem for collectors. We don’t entertain at home much any more. Rather, our homes are mainly seen by our relatives.
When the news came out that Shottenstein was closing down the Steuben operation I did a Google search and read some very interesting news articles in various papers, stories of the feelings of past employees when they heard the news. Thursday when I read the same piece sent yesterday the “foreseen” jumped out, in my estimation it was foreseen back in 2008 when they took it over and then when they had pieces made in other countries it was inevitable. I hope they never got to the point where they were selling Steuben at their Filene’s Basement operation.
