2010 Carder Steuben Symposium
Thursday, September 23 to Saturday, September 25
The Rakow Library and its staff have been an integral part of the Symposium and they will be participating again this year. On Thursday afternoon, September 23, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Library will host an informal “open house” for those attending the Symposium. The Library is regularly open at this time but on Thursday afternoon the staff will be especially attentive to visitors from the Symposium. Stop by the Library for a quick tour, meet the staff, learn about their research interests, get introduced to the Library’s vast collection and perhaps even pursue a personal research interest assisted by one of the Reference Librarians.
The highlight of Thursday afternoon will be a volunteer work session arranged by the Library staff dedicated to the original materials in the Carder Archives left to the Library by Frederick Carder. Symposium attendees can stop by the Library anytime during Thursday afternoon and, under the guidance and supervision of the Library staff, help organize, preserve and manage this material. Whether you have 30 minutes or 3 hours, you can join your fellow Carder Steuben enthusiasts to help the Rakow Library with this fascinating and important collection of materials. No experience or special skills are necessary. And don’t worry – even though it’s a library, we will still be able to socialize and discuss these materials during this session.
Hotel reservations for the Symposium at discounted rates can be made at the Radisson Corning (607-962-5000) or the Comfort Inn (607-962-1515) or at the Hillcrest Manor Bed and Breakfast (607-936-4548). To receive the discounted rate, just indicate that you are participating in the Carder Steuben Club Symposium when you register.
