Some Personal Comments on Engraver Barry Sautner
I met Barry many many years ago at an opening exhibit in the DC metro area. I was very impressed with his technical capability. In a discussion with him I mentioned the vibrant shade of red of one of his works . He commented that will be the last piece to be made in that color as it was made from the last remaining piece he found at the Durand factory in Vineland. Dr. Rakow had also given him a few Thomas Webb blanks to work.

It has been interesting learning about modern day glass engravers, par excellence, Barry Sautner and Max Erlacher. Many Carder Steuben collectors are focused on Carder’s colored glass. However, Carder’s repertoire includes much clear glass that was engraved. Who were the world class engravers that delivered on designs? Hopefully, will have readers provide background, names and examples of Carder’s superb engraved glass and other relevant commentary.
