Early’s, Art Glass Market, Julia, Collecting

What’s the state of the art glass market? The discussion continues. Note that today Christie’s announced that they’ve had a 43% increase in fine art sales. So, things may be on the upswing.

Anyhow, here is from Tommy Dreiling of Brooklyn.
I have to agree with Rande, now is the time to buy if you can. I bought four things at the Julia auction at very low prices, including the Lot #1400 Decorated Aurene shape 519 for $1,400.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I count that as the best buy I have ever made in 25 years of collecting. Early’s is always slow to post results but I had several absentee bids and I’m guessing I did well there to.

Then Orange, California antique dealer Lisa Ackerman provides some perspective on the subject.
Thank you Alan for sharing candid views of the market. As you and I have observed, many in the younger set do not prize “collecting” Never the less, certainly there will yet be folks who discover Carder’s art for art’s sake. I always tell my customers to buy what they like because they like it, not in the hopes of it being an investment.
