Diamond Quilting
As to the question David & Duane posed about the line drawing not showing this as Diamond Quilted. Not all Diamond Quilted pieces are shown in the line drawing that way. The line drawing for the 249 shows it with Green Pull decoration. Most of these early Aurene Diamond Quilted pieces were done as decoration and one of the first decoration done to piece along the same time as the Green decoration was done.

Line Drawings
The diamond or quilting design was one of many decorations seen on the earlier sales at Steuben. Often these were given a letter designation such as pattern “J” or pattern “b” and so on. All of the earlier shapes can be found with these designation. When Paul came across these he wasn’t quite sure what they meant and depending on whose shipping books you see, they may not be there. Remember that the line drawings that we now see were used in shipping and sales and are not blueprints that were used on the blowing room floor. This is a proper vase and a very good example of an early piece of Steuben.
