On November 22 & 23, the Carder Steuben Glass Association’s Scott Coots set up a beautiful Frederick Carder glass display at the fall Eastern National Antique Show in Carlisle, PA. Scott’s display had a variety of Carder’s glass and an excellent display of Aurene glass. The Eastern National is one of the last glass shows in the northeast. Glass collector organizations and museums are encouraged to participate, displaying various types of glass to help educate the shoppers.
Along with the glass display, Scott set up a laptop to demonstrate our website. Scott said there was a lot of interest, and who could blame anyone for loving this glass!
Scott also added a puzzle to engage visitors at the booth. He put a different maker’s glass in the case and asked the lookers to find it. The non-Steuben pieces are in the pictures. Can you find them?
Going forward, the CSGA Board will be discussing how best to continue this opportunity. If any club members are interested in volunteering to staff the booth and talk to shoppers, it would be greatly appreciated. With a few volunteers we may be able to have a little ID clinic or some other educational activity. The show is a two-day affair with one additional day to set up. The next show will take place in May 2025. If anyone is interested in helping out in some capacity, please contact Karen Beeman at president@steubenglass.org.
We’re introducing something new to the Gazette this week — Want Ads! This feature aims to give club members a platform to share their searches for specific pieces of Steuben glass with others. Our network of Steuben glass enthusiasts might just be the magic link that connects seekers with their goals.
Placing a want ad is free — it’s a benefit of membership. Please note that all transactions are conducted directly between individuals; the club does not participate in or oversee any sales. Our goal is simply to help members connect.
If you’re searching for that perfect match and would like to ask the club network for assistance, send a note to gazette@steubenglass.org. Our first request is below. Might you have the perfect match for these shades?
In search of three (3) Steuben Gold Aurene trumpet shades. Dimensions — Fitter: 2 1/4″, Bottom diameter: 6 1/8″ (6″ is good), Height: 6 3/4″. These are a typical shape but the height is taller than most commonly found shades. (An example of the shorter height is shown below.) After contact, I will email a picture of my shades to show exactly what I have to compare with what you have, before purchase. Will buy one, two, or three plus will pay all shipping costs. Please contact Mark Bradish at mbradish@new.rr.com. Thank you!
