“C”

Back in March, Bonham’s was selling a presentation piece of glass that had been in Joan Miller’s collection. Silver overlay on black. Apparently given by Mr. Carder to John Northwood. It was signed with what appears to be the signature of Mr. Carder, with a middle initial “C”. Considerable discussion took place over whether there was a “C” or “Caleb” was Mr. Carder’s middle name. Well, Ed Bush with his curious mind did considerable research, including Mr. Carder’s birth records to prove Mr. Carder had no middle initial. Some insist it is Caleb, or C; others insist this isn’t important.
Whatever, Ed put together a scholarly article on the subject. Goes to show what can be learned today between the internet and vast reservoir of material at the Rakow library. Pretty incredible research. Well now, for those who are members of The National American Glass Club, keep a lookout for the Glass Club Bulletin and Ed’s article. You’ll thoroughly enjoy it. Also, I’m advised that the cover contains a picture of the vase. Here follows, courtesy of Dave Williams, a picture of the inscription. We will republish the article in about two months with permission.
