Buy or Sell?

One of the beauties of the Symposium is that it provides great opportunities and choices for buying art glass. First, the Symposium takes place at the Corning Museum of Glass (“CMoG”). On the lower level they have a massive market place with a wide variety of new art glass for sale. Membership in the Carder Steuben Club gets you a membership in CMoG, which in turn leads to discounts at their market place. Then, the “main drag”, or Market Street has a number of antique shops, which will feature Carder glass. In fact, Market Street is just a charming street of many locally owned shops to browse and truly enjoy. Not many downtowns like this left anymore. Next, the Symposium this year will feature a small market or bourse to buy or sell Carder glass. If this isn’t enough, one of the special highlights that at the conclusion of the Symposium an elegant banquet is held concluding with a fun filled auction of Carder glass. Just something for everyone. Between these buying opportunities, a Symposium rich in content, and then seeing the world’s finest glass museum, which includes the Building “B” Carder exhibit of over 2,500 pieces of Carder glass, your dreams will be filled with colors, shapes and long lasting memories. So, the question is how to participate in the closing auction.

SYMPOSIUM AUCTION

On Saturday evening following the Symposium banquet the club conducts a
glass auction. Members and friends of the club provide Carder Steuben
glass or glass of other manufacturers to be auctioned. In addition,
glass related items like books, catalogs or other ephemera may also be
auctioned. A professional auctioneer conducts the auction for the
club. A catalog of the items to be auctioned is distributed to all
participants during the cocktail hour preceding the banquet and the
items are on display at that time as well.

If you have items you would like to submit to the auction, the details
and procedure are described in the attached letter. Questions can be
sent to Marshall Ketchum, the auction chair, at mdketchum@yahoo.com.

Please remember that only checks or cash may be used to pay for auction items.

Credit cards are not accepted.
