Bottle Cleaning by Kim Carlisle

May 5, 2008
Issue 355

Yesterday we sent along some information on a bottle cleaner and prices. Last
page of the attachment on bottle cleaning.

Several have responded with comments. Vivienne Richards of Ontario, Canada
writes: I found this information to be very useful. Thanks.
I have never had anything cleaned by Kim Carlisle, but I have certainly had
recommendations from people who have used their service and like it.

David Williams of Kalamazoo, MI reports:
I will vouch for the fine work of Kim Carlisle. Some years ago, I
had a 12″ deeply cut clear vase, design was underwater fish, bubbles,
and sea weed. It had both internal and external scratches, and was
somewhat cloudy. I met him at a show, and he said he thought he could
clean it up. He took it with him, and mailed it back to me in
pristine condition – all at a moderate charge. Many Thanks, Kim.

Did you know that Oriental Poppy’s & Oriental Jades can be identified as distinct
from Tiffany’s similar looks by the fact that Carder’s glass has sixteen
alternating vertical stripes of opalescent and either pink, green or amethyst? I
think Tiffany’s may be 12.

Greg Merkel of Corning observes in a similar vein:
For what it’s worth, in my limited experience, I believe that all Carder Steuben
millefiori flowers that I have seen have five petals, whereas the flowers on this
perfume have seven. If I have over-generalized Steuben’s millefioris, I will
welcome the corrections that I’m sure will flow in, preferably with images!
All of these types of observations are important in identifying various makers.
We welcome in other similar educational observations.
