Issue 371

Take a look at the front page of the Club’s website on the shape index.

Then click on the word “Grenadine” above the pictured bowl, shape #2851. See
how the web site then provides background information on the color “grenadine”.
It shows how the site is developing to not only show images of glass that fit into
the factory line drawings of a particular shape numbers, but other types of
information, such as background on color, as it develops and is available to assist
the collector.

A couple of days ago we sent you the link to the Carder On Line Drawing Index. It posted the
picture of a piece of glass identified by the factory line drawings number. If you then “clicked” on the shape number you would have gone to that part of the shape numbers and seen other images identified for shape numbers where they are available. This is an aid in identifying the legitimacy of Steuben glass by identifying a piece of glass, not only by the shape number, but in turn seeing a picture of that piece of glass in color. Along with this new piece of glass it was cross referenced to information on one of Mr. Carder’s colors, grenadine. Yesterday a new piece of glass was posted. It cross references to information on Cyprian glass. Take a look.

Bookmark this page. With some frequency our webmaster, Mark Buffa will post other pictures and information. Of course, he needs your help with supplying him pictures of shape numbers, or colors of shape numbers that we don’t already have. While on this index page move around and see the richness of the site. One of the many benefits for our members. Authenticating glass is such a difficult task. The website is an important confirmation of the process.

As Gary Volz of Cincinnati notes: Superb work. Kudos to Mark Buffa & Jim Barlow and all club
contributors for this valuable resource!
When sending out the membership application and asking you to join the other day and touting the benefits of automatically becoming an associate membership in CMoG I got this response from Scott Hansen. The CMoG membership gets you a 15% discount in the Glass Market (in person, over the phone or on the internet) – a couple more reasons for people to join (and a bit of an incentive for people who don’t live in New York and can’t take advantage of the reciprocal museum admittance). irresistible.
