Issue 244
Dateline–Hollywood, CA
Wednesday evening, April 4, 2007, saw the sale of Carder Steuben Glass from the estate of Joan Callner Miller at Bonhoms at their Hollywood, CA facility. The auctioneer announced it as the most important Carder Steuben auction in 20 years.
The link below will show some pictures from the event. Are there lots of Carder Steuben
interested buyers out there? This auction suggests there are. Phone bidders were so numerous
they had to turn many away. Bonhams maxed out at 26 phone lines. Someone suggested they had
about 100 requests.
Bidding was spirited. The general observations were that a great number of items sold at prices beyond traditional norms. The market for desirable pieces seems to be quite strong.
Is this the Carder Steuben holiday season? Last week had an important auction at Sothebys, this week Bonham’s and next week it is on to Early’s for an unusually strong lineup. It doesn’t get any better for the Carder Steuben collector.
