ROCKWELL ELECTED TRUSTEE EMERITUS
The Rockwell Museum of Western Art board of trustees on Thursday elected
founding collector Robert F. Rockwell Jr. a trustee emeritus of the museum.
“Bob’s passion for the museum and his dedication to his community is honorable.
The museum is grateful for his enthusiasm and service,” said Kristin Swain,
museum executive director, in a news release.
Rockwell began exhibiting works from his Western art collection in the mid-
1960s in the former Rockwell Department Store on Market Street. In 1975, he
donated items from his collection to form the Rockwell Museum in partnership
with Corning Inc., then Corning Glass Works, according to the museum’s Web
site.
The museum’s first home was in the Baron Steuben building on Market Street.
In 1982, the Rockwell Museum moved to its current location on Cedar Street in
the former Corning City Hall.
The museum celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006.
