David Chadwick-Brown of San Diego adds to Beth Shaut’s comments in the last Gazette. David will be showing a good part of his collection next month (March 13) in Rancho Bernardo for a Southern California art glass and cut glass groups. I also, will be speaking on Carder Steuben with a power point presentation. David & I will be doing a joint program. For anyone in the area at this time who needs more details, just let me know. Okay, here’s David’s comments.
Alan –
Beth’s recollection of black jade as an inclusion prompts me to recall that I have a low compote (6 inches, by 2.5 inches) in topaz, with green jade spokes that radiate out from the center to the edge of the bowl. These eight inclusions are not applied but appear to be within the topaz, and all pinwheel slightly when they get to the edge of the compote. Mine was one of a pair, from a shop in Seattle and my mentor on Steuben back in the 1970s; the other had the usual triangular gold label. Alas, I was so caught up in the flush of excitement when I started collecting Carder Steuben, that it left me less than flush, so bought the cheaper of the two…!
