Report From Museum of American Glass In West Virginia

Glass design by Donald Pollard

Engraving design by Donald Pollard and Patricia Weisberg

Hi, Alan –

It was exciting to see the Bicentennial goblet. Please share with your members that this is one of the pieces that is in the Martin Massman Collection of Steuben. We have begun accessioning the collection, preparatory to the opening of the exhibit at the Museum of American Glass in WV on October 1, 2016 — just six months away! I can’t tell you how exciting it is to unpack each piece one by one and to see the exquisite workmanship. It is going to be extraordinary to see all 200+ pieces on display at once.

As an update, we have ordered the new display cases (with reinforced shelves!), even though we have not yet received donations to cover the entire cost. But we’re confident that the cost will be covered by the time they arrive — after all, just look at the price of this one piece, back in 1975: $1,600 for the Bicentennial Goblet, which is almost the cost all four display cases. And that is just one of over 200 pieces.

Thanks to those who have already donated — and to anyone else who is thinking about doing so. I think everyone will be blown away when they have the opportunity to see this incredible collection.

Where’s the Top

I purchased the exact same piece but did not know it was a perfume bottle because it did not have a top. If anyone has an extra top or knows where I can purchase one, I would appreciate it very much.
