We started yesterday trying to find museums that have Steuben in their collection. Scott Hansen of Briarcliff Manor, New York finds from the web site of the Art Institute of Chicago that it has five Steuben items—but none on display.
If you want to mention one museum where you can’t find Carder Steuben pictured on the web or on display, you might mention The Art Institute of Chicago. A search on their web site revealed 5 pieces of Carder Steuben in their collection, none of which are on display or pictured on the web site. The original donor must be disappointed.

p.s.
There is a “Collections” tab on the home page of the Art Institute web site. I clicked on that and then searched “carder”. You get five listings – 2 bowls, 2 vases and one salt dish with dimensions and that’s it. No shape numbers, no colors and no pictures – essentially useless (although they do give donor information and a note that the pieces are not on display). You can do a “steuben” search in the “Research” tab and find a list of publications the Art Institute Library has but that is just a card catalog.
