Palm Springs Exhibit
Those who attended the Symposium when Mary Jane Madigan spoke on modern Steuben, will recall her presentation on the Asian Artists series. See the following article appearing about the Annenberg’s acquisition of the entire series and upcoming exhibit at Sunnyland in Palm Springs starting January 28.
Clearly Significant
The Annenbergs’ acquisition of the full set of Steuben crystal designed by Asian artists remains a poignant gesture in the art of diplomacy.
In 1971, Walter and Leonore Annenberg’s carefully chosen Christmas gift to President Richard Nixon was a symbolic piece of Steuben crystal. Skilled in the nuances of gift giving, they saw the glistening Star of the President as a fitting recognition of the commander in chief, under whom Walter served as Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s (United Kingdom) from 1969 to 1974.
Double Etched
John Styler wanted to see an article or something more on double etching. John submitted a picture of a piece he owns.
The following appears at p. 78 of Louise Luther’s Art Glass, How to Compare & Value, along with a piece of piece of glass with similar scroll work to John’s.
“Note how the etched scrolls cover the alabaster body around the jade glass layer.”
