ARE CHANGES AHAPPENING?
David Skarda of Heritage Lighting of Cedarburg, Wisconsin (that’s Milwaukee) has a glorious lighting store. Lots of shades and other collectible lighting glass. Here’s David’s eye opening experience from the Miami Beach show
Alan,
We just returned from participating in”The Original Miami Beach Antique Show which was held at the Miami Beach Convention Center Jan. 27-31. This show also was a real disappointment. This was our 5th year participating in the show. Although last year wasn’t as good as previous years, we did see positive results, so we did it again THIS year.
The vendors were down approximately 500 from 1250 to 750, and went from 3 buildings to 2. All the same lighting vendors participated along with the usual high end glass vendors. All the dealers I spoke to were VERY disappointed, and some dealers that have been doing THIS show for up to 30 years said they will have to evaluate before returning. We opted to “hang in there” and reserve a space for next year (It’s nice to get a break from the cold in Wisconsin). Although sales were not good, it’s still important to keep your name out there, and hope that we can all “ride this out” until confidence in the economy returns.
