My Favorite Piece

from Rande Bly

David C-B your Windowsill vase in the metal ship holder is Nile Green. I know most often Nile Green will be cased over Clear Crystal cut with beautiful patterns. On rare occasions you may happen across a solid piece Nile Green. I have seen about ten pieces. As you well know out of over seven thousand shapes nothing shows off Carder’s colors better than these Windowsill vases. This is due to their extreme 1/4 inch thicknesses. Optic designs in this shape can make the color dance! Maybe that is why you like them so much and a variety of them line your windowsills.

Numerous times in the Gazette the question has been posed “What is your favorite piece of Steuben”. I have never responded. Today I will go on record. My favorite piece of Steuben is the very piece you have just shown. It owns a place in my heart even I do not understand. It doesn’t have to be worth a million bucks…..It just has to be your favorite!

If I remember correctly Nile Green became an accepted color world wide around 1897. Carder did not invent this color and he knew about it before he came to America. He just made it better than everyone else.

Today I will present two photos of Steuben Nile Green. First photo is of David’s vase shown above. Second photo is the confirmed CMOG Nile Green wine. Let those who have eyes to see make their own determination. The third picture is of Nile green corrugated paper and the fourth picture will be of Nile green curling ribbon both of which I found on the internet. Let me assure you, gumshoe detective work is not dead!
