Issue 283
Before the idea of the day, take a look at today’s Wall Street Journal, page D
6. A lovely article “Glass Artistry in Full Flower”. An extensive piece on the
CMoG’s current exhibit, Botanical Wonders. The Havard University’s celebrated
glass flowers, “a genius onto themselves”. Those attending our Symposium this
week will have an opportunity to see this exhibit.
Now, on to the idea of the day. Renown paperweight glass artist Debbie
Tarsitano suggests,
Consider if you like bringing up the idea of having a “Steuben Prize” for a contemporary artist who comes up with great designs in glass innovating on Carder. It could bring your group and Carder’s work a lot of attention and new members.
Debbie trained at The Studio, adjacent to the Carder collection in building “B”. The
two spaces are connected so that students can study Carder’s creations as examples
for developing their own work. We’ll put this on the business meeting agenda for
discussion and consideration.
