The Symposium tour in Corning next went to another community cemetery. The
purpose was to see the American Flint Glass monument. This commemorates the
deaths of about 20 young glass workers. A union campaign took place in Corning
and failed. The workers went to Ohio to work in a glass factory. At Christmas
or Thanksgiving they returned home to Corning by bus; had an accident and died.
Unfortunately, my reiteration of the story loses a great deal from Tom
Dimitroff’s telling. Sorry for that. But, here are the pictures.
The next image was part of the power point presented by the Rakow staff. I
was requested to get a particular Carder art nouveau image. However, it’s been
several weeks and I forgot who requested it. Hopefully, it is the right one.
The final image comes from City Hall. The walls are lined with pictures of
citizens of Corning. This one is the Houghton’s.
