Glass Damage in Shipping
Alan,
In response to Michael Krumme’s comments regarding the shipping of the Cire Perdue sculpture.
I was horrified upon opening the shipping box that the piece came in. The only way to get to the sculpture was to literally unroll the piece, as the packing consisted of the packers rolling the sculpture in a long rectangular piece of bubble wrap. As I was unrolling, carefully as I could, I could hear the broken legs rattling around. So, fortunately the legs did separate where they had years before and the shards were minimal, but there were a couple.
I contacted the auctioneer and I knew by his reputation that he has been in the antiques/ auction business for a number of years. Naturally he was dismayed to hear how the piece was packed and assured me that he would address the issue. I told him that if he had been expecting the piece and saw how it was packed, he would have been appalled. I was very fortunate to have been able to have it saved.
