Reflections

Alan,

I was so very saddened to learn of Lon Knickerbockers passing. When I started with the club almost 15 years ago, Lon was one of the initial people who introduced himself to me and made me feel comfortable.

Since that initial meeting, we had many dinners together with he and Deb, and often emailed each other with club topics, and of course glass! Lon was such a fantastic Steuben and local Corning history source , and I loved listening to his recollections.

After a few years in the club, I found myself having some reservations as to whether or not I wanted to continue, and Lon and I had a heart to heart talk, and he convinced me to hang in there and give it another year, and see how I feel then. That was probably 10 consecutive symposiums ago. Even though Lon’s attendance at Symposiums was void for the past few years, and missed by many people, he was always available for any glass inquiries that I may have had.

Approximately six years ago when Lon set up as a dealer at the symposium, he sold me this lovely piece of skeleton mold S&W or Steuben with water lily cuttings ( incidentally, I suspect S&W), and it’s been a favorite of mine since it’s purchase, and now it’s become even that much more personal to me.

ΓΏ My life is more enriched having met and known Lon, and all the wonderful people I have come to know in this close knit club.
