A Winning Combination

Jan 30, 2008
Issue 323

First, in this Gazette we’ve advocated seeking opportunities to speak on and
display Carder Steuben, far and wide. To this end, for anyone in San Diego on
Sunday March 9, 2008 I’ll be presenting a talk on Carder Steuben at the Shores
complex in Coronado, CA. This will be a power point presentation. In addition,
David Chadwick-Brown, of San Diego and fellow collector graciously will bring
representative examples from his collection for view. We’ve earlier shared
pictures of his stunning collection in an earlier Gazette. The event is dubbed “A
Winning Combination” in the Shores newsletter because it will be a combination
of “A wonderful Brunch” and display of art glass. Is Steuben a draw? Well,
preliminary information went out far in advance, and responses have been
exceptionally strong. The sponsors think this could be a capacity crowd of about
100. There is striking interest and curiosity based on preliminary feedback.
Bodes well for Steuben collectors looking for such opportunities to share the love
of Frederick Carder’s artistry. Anyone in the San Diego area interested in
attending, please contact me.

Secondly, and another part of winning combinations is Jeff Purtell, a dealer in
the more modern clear Steuben is exhibiting at the Palm Beach Jewelry, Art &
Antique Show during Presidents Day Weekend February 16-19, 2008 at the PB
County Convention Center on Okeechobee BLVD in WPB. Jeff says: If any Club
members wish to attend, I will gladly leave passes at the show entry.
