Issue 793
John Lolley of Monroe Louisiana reacts to questions posed by Scott Hansen on how dealers are reacting to a changing market place.
Thus far I have kept silent on this issue; however, I find that Scott Hansen is the only
respondent thus far to address the ‘real problem’. As one who for nearly fifty years never thought I could miss an antique show, I haven’t attended one in three years. I find that the dealers have “their head in the sand” when it comes to recognizing the impact of the internet, especially eBay. Even more and more sellers on eBay are now offering their items as, “BUY IT NOW – MAKE AN OFFER”, evidencing their recognition of the economic crisis and impact of the internet. As was stated by another respondent, the shows continue to do well with the ‘high-end quality’ items, but they must “get real” with the low-end to medium-quality merchandise.
