A NEW CARDER BOOK?
For those who looked at the Antique Roadshow video clip you heard Arlie Sulka, debunk the story of how a piece of glass the participants reported being bought in China, was rather an American made Steuben piece of glass. Dick Weerts of Osprey, Florida sends this thought in response

Alan: This is what scares me the most when I am offered by an individual, dealer, or an auction house about provenance. Memories fade……..Stories get passed down the line……….sometimes people wish things to be what they are not. and last but not least, just because it sold at “……..” 20 years ago out of a “Great Collection” does not make it right………..Dick Weerts

As a response to Dick I’d suggest.
If the memories and history is accurate; then it’s good. If not, then bad. How to discern the difference. Education, education, education! Study the books. Be glad and support those who do research. For Steuben we’re fortunate to have a repository like the Rakow Library at Corning Museum of Glass. Much continues to be learned and pieced together today about what took place at Steuben Glass during the Carder years of 1903-1933. The Gazette has reported on some of this research and, in general, has a focus on education. We’re fortunate to have several well researched documentary and well photographed books on the subject of Carder Steuben. This appears to be enriched at this coming year’s Carder Steuben Symposium(Sept. 23-25). As many know Bob Mueller has been working on a book and it appears likely that Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. will be publishing it Bob is told that copies will be printed and delivered in time for an unveiling at the Symposium. Another exciting step forward.
