CARDER STEUBEN CLUB BUSINESS ACTIVITIES
In addition to all the lectures, dinners and fun we had at last week’s Carder Steuben Club Symposium, we also had several meetings to conduct the Club’s business.
I am pleased to report that the members who attended the Annual Meeting on Friday, September 24 elected Marshall Ketchum, who is leading our new web site development project, as Webmaster; Alan Shovers, our blog master and immediate past president as a Director; Mark Buffa, our previous Webmaster and a former president, as a Director; Lon Knickerbocker, our Treasurer, was re-elected for another term; and Al Bradtke, our original Treasurer was elected as Secretary.
I want to thank Dick Weerts, our former Secretary for his service as both Secretary and Chair of the Nominating Committee, and Jeanette Little for her service as a Director. I also want to thank Mark Buffa and Jim Barlow, who developed and have run our current website for almost ten years, for their service to the Club.
On Sunday morning your Board had its only face-to-face meeting of the year. Our quarterly board meetings are normally done by conference call, a practice begun by Alan Shovers which I have continued. It seems to be working.
Our Vetting Committee, which is ably led by Vivienne Richards, also met on Sunday morning to discuss further refinements to the vetting process that is used to determine whether or not pictures are added to the data base. There were fruitful discussions on making the process more transparent and clarifying how we arrive at consensus.
Our Club is a volunteer organization and its continued success will depend on getting more members involved in our working committees. These include the Symposium Committee chaired by Scott Hansen, the Website Committee chaired by Marshall Ketchum, and a newly-formed Long-Range Planning Committee chaired by Al Bradtke. If you are interested in working on any of these committees, please contact me at cardersteuben@aol.com.
Respectfully submitted,
David Goldstein
President
