IDENTIFYING MODERN STEUBEN PIECE
Thursday’s Gazette #1668 identified the following piece as a 1951 designed modern Steuben vase.
Identified in Gazette #1668 as a modern Steuben piece.
I have been following the Redlands museum pieces shown and would like to note I disagree with Marshall Ketchum’s assessment on the crystal vase listed yesterday as the 8020 Boquet vase. The vase shown is not the correct shape, the applied buttons are not correct, the thickness is not correct and the color appears off. Just my opinion but I don’t think this vase is Steuben although camera angles and lighting can play tricks.

Blue Aurene Compote
Shape #367
8 inches high
This is HGM Steuben No 29. The label says a Steuben 8″ comport in blue aurene; marked on the underside “Steuben Aurene.” I did some research on this one and I think it may be Steuben shape #367.

I would agree that this is shape 367 in Blue Aurene.

This is another example of a Stevens & Williams piece that can easily be mistaken for Steuben. The S & W blue jade that we see here was not made by Steuben. Steuben made a Light Blue Jade that is cased, a Dark Blue Jade which is not cased and also another couple of blue jades that are rarely seen. In any case this is none of them.

this is the shade of blue we see in the S&W pieces.
